Non-standard, but standard: the Renault 5 Turbo was nothing like the 5 you saw every day on the road. Featuring a supercharged 1.4-litre mid-engine, the Turbo's enlarged wings and futuristic interior, designed by Bertone's style centre, did not go unnoticed. Designed for rallying, the car enjoyed a brilliant racing career, including winning the 1981 Monte Carlo Rally with Ragnotti. The Turbo was also used in a very spectacular one-make series that ran concurrently with Formula 1 GPs from 1981 to 1984. Produced from 1980, the 5 Turbo underwent various evolutions, which led to reworked versions: the Turbo 2 in 1982 and the Maxi 5 from 1986.
